Description
Western Europe, probably Spain, England, or France, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden altarpiece depicting a nude cherub grasping the side of a tall torch with one hand. The infantile figure is painted in peach, pink, and brown hues while the larger torch element is covered in layers of brass leaf. Size: 5" L x 6" W x 10.5" H (12.7 cm x 15.2 cm x 26.7 cm)
Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982

Condition
Minor abrasions and chipping to pigment, with some stable hairline fissures, and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to form.
