Description
Central Asia, India, Jain, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A hand-carved stone religious sculpture depicting a woman seated on the back of a massive Naga serpent. The woman wears a serpent-scale skirt while holding the neck of a bottle in her right hand and raising her left hand. Size: 3.5" L x 1.1" W x 2.6" H (8.9 cm x 2.8 cm x 6.6 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

Minor nicks and abrasions to figure and serpent, with softening to some finer details, and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to figural form.
