Description
Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumerian, ca. 2500 to 2200 BCE. A charming trio of 3 stone amulets, each hand-carved into the form of an animal. The 2 laterally-drilled translucent stones depict a recumbent dog and a standing ox or goat, while the mottled white and black bead is drilled vertically and portrays a long-snouted quadruped, perhaps a deer. Size of largest (dog): 0.9" L x 0.3" W x 0.5" H (2.3 cm x 0.8 cm x 1.3 cm)
Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-Joel Malter collection, prior to 2004

Expected weathering to surfaces with a few small nicks in areas and softening to overall detail, but all are otherwise intact and wearable. Light earthen deposits in drill holes.
