Description
Ancient Near East / Central Asia, probably Mesopotamia, Sumer, ca. 3000 to 2300 BCE. A hand carved stone amulet carved into a cow / ungulate animal with slender legs and concentric circles. A suspension hole is drilled vertically through the center of the animal's back. The "bullseye" motif is characteristic of Ancient Sumerian art, this may have been a protective charm and worn on a cord and/or buried with the deceased. Size: 1.75" L x 0.4" W (4.4 cm x 1 cm)
