Description
Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, ca. 1991 to 1802 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of petite size. The topside displays stylized insectile features, and the bottom is inscribed with a series of hieroglyphs - some mirrored on each side - that perhaps acted as a protective talisman for its owner at one time. Size: 0.48" L x 0.32" W x 0.19" H (1.2 cm x 0.8 cm x 0.5 cm)
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Mark and Lottie S. collection, Hartsdale, New York, USA, 1950s - 1960s, thence by descent

Condition
Minor chipping around peripheries, with light softening to some finer details along topside, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to incised glyphs on bottom.
