19th Century Japanese Enamelled Porcelain Covered Vase on Stand - A fine Japanese porcelain covered vase/bowl or urn with pedestal stand. Polychrome enamels, with a motif close to both Kutani and Imari ware. The globular urn/bowl featuring a central floral-form medallion with green dragon chasing the sacred pearl, motifs of cranes and florals, a band at rim with a background of enameled scales, and leaves in applied relief at bottom of bowl. A pair of well-defined Shishi lion head handles at side. The separate stand glazed in golden and warm brown shades with raised relief bands and enameled & gilt accents. Unmarked. Three piece set: porcelain stand and bowl, carved rosewood lid. Carved wood lid may not be original to the set. Dimensions: Bowl - 9 1/2" h x 14" w Stand - 9 1/4" h. Overall - 21 3/4". Provenance: Arthur James Galleries. Condition: Bowl and stand in fine condition. Carved wood lid has an age crack and some losses to an area of leaves/berries.
