Description
A group of 5 post-incunable leaves with woodblock illustrations, each dating between 1512 and 1544, individually hinged to matching paper mats that measure 19 1/2" x 13 3/4". The leaves include:
1. Antwerp, 1512. Ludolph of Saxony's Leven Christi (Life of Christ), sheet 11" x 8".
2. Strasbourg, 1513. Master of the Grueninger press, Das Leben der Heiligen (The Lives of the Saints), sheet 10 3/4" x 7 1/2".
3. Saragossa, 1520. Master of the Schoffer press, Titus Livius's Decadas, sheet 11 1/4" x 7 3/4".
4. Lyons, 1542. School of Springinklee, Petrus de Natalibus's Catalogus Sanctorum (Catalog of Saints), sheet 11 1/2" x 8".
5. Venice, 1544. Virgil's Opera, sheet 12" x 8 1/4".
Condition
[Antwerp 1512] Good, with some foxing. [Strasbourg 1513] Fair, with darkening toward the bottom right corner, and scattered staining. [Saragossa 1520] Good, with some smudging in the margins toward the edges. [Lyons 1542] Good, with smudge to the bottom right corner. [Venice 1544] Very good, with only very faint browning/ staining.
