SILVER-MOUNTED CANE WITH HORSE AND DOG MOTIFS
Late 19th/Early 20th Century
An unusual and finely crafted example. L-shaped ivory handle with a repoussÃˆ silver sleeve in a variegated foliate design. Top of the handle with an oblong aperture in the sleeve, showing the ivory. Carved ivory head of a horse and dog emerge from two apertures in the sleeve at the side of the handle. Dog with an applied silver collar and a leash that wraps around the stem. The horse's rein, carved from ivory, is gently grasped in the dog's mouth. Silver collar marked sterling. Wooden shaft with metal ferrule.
Length 39".

Condition

Tarnished, but generally well preserved. Possibly a tiny loss to one of the horse's ear tips.
