A Needlework Embroidered Sampler, Wrought by Tryphena Baker
Bennington, Vermont, Circa 1824

identified Tryphena Baker Born May 25, 1810/ Halfmoon / January 7 / 1824, with stitched moral sentiment at center and various flora and fauna to lower corners.
the basket further initialed T / 13 / B.
together with a cased ninth-plate tintype of Mary Jane Cole Williams, the daughter of Tryphena Baker.
12 x 15 inches.
Genealogical records confirm that Tryphena Baker was the youngest child born to Captain Matthew and Lydia Baker of Bennington, Vermont. She married James Cole before 1830, when the couple relocated to Camillus, Onondaga County, New York. Typhena died in 1860 and is buried at Kingdom Road Cemetery in Van Buren, New York.
