Description
Jun Ware bowl. China, late 19th-early 20th century.
Polychrome celadon type ceramic.
Measurements: 9 x 19.5 cm.
The bowl now on offer closely follows the characteristics of Jun ware ware, one of the five great pottery kilns of the Song dynasty. The term covers several different types of pottery, produced over several centuries and in several places, during the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), the Jin dynasty (1115-1234) and the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368) and (as has become clearer in recent years) lasting until the early Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The most striking and distinctive Jun wares use blue to purple glaze colours, sometimes tinged with white, made with straw ash in the glaze.
