Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, North Coast, Chimu & Inca culture, ca. 1300 to 1532 CE. A large blackware canteen shaped vessel with rounded and slightly flattened body and base. The surface is highly burnished, a simple presentation without applied motifs or additional pigments. Around 1470 the Chimu were defeated by Inca emperor Topa Inca Yupanqui, but Chimu potters continued to produce pieces which would eventually combine the southern Incan and Northern Chimu-Moche styles. Size: 10" W x 12" H (25.4 cm x 30.5 cm)

Chips and losses to the neck and rim. Abrasions and pitting to body, but otherwise intact without repairs. Light mineral and earthen deposits on the interior.
