Description
1862 John Evelyn Diary Correspondence Royalist Literature Travels Pepys Politics
A beautifully bound, four-volume 19th-century printing of the ‘Diary and Correspondence of John Evelyn’ edited by William Bray.
John Evelyn was an English writer, gardener, and diarist. His diaries, or memoirs, are largely contemporaneous with those of the other noted diarist of the time, Samuel Pepys, and cast considerable light on the art, culture, and politics of his time such as the deaths of Charles I and Oliver Cromwell, the last Great Plague of London, as well as the Great Fire of London in 1666. Despite preceding it, over the years, Evelyn's Diary has been over-shadowed by Samuel Pepys's chronicles of 17th-century life.
