Item Details

Description

This is a vintage lot of three hand crafted Helderberg pottery plates. This type of pottery, which used a chemical processl that enabled the potter to harden pottery without a kiln, was developed by Charles Browning "Bouck" White circa 1920. One plate bears a signature of "MR", which was produced via the same method Bouck White used.

Mr. White was an eccentric fellow and aside from his artistic pursuits, was a vocal protestor against war. Please use the following URL to read a blog post about the life of the artist written by the Friends of Albany History:
