Description
A Pennsylvania Two-Gallon Salt Glazed Stoneware Jar, Evan R. Jones, Pittston, 19th Century. Stamped 'EVAN R. JONES / PITTSTON, PA.' above a number '2', with cobalt blue hand brushed floral decoration to the cylindrical body, rounded rim, tooled shoulder, having two applied lug handles to either side and Albany slip interior. Together with a one-gallon salt glazed stoneware jar with cobalt blue floral motifs.
Dimensions: Height 9 1/2in; diameter 10 1/4in; height of smaller 9 1/2in; diameter 6 1/2in.
Condition
The Evan R. Jones example with typical imperfections from firing and glazing. There is a vertical hairline crack to the reverse of the jar, measuring approximately 5 3/4in. The one-gallon example with with typical imperfections from firing and glazing and an 8in traveling vertical hairline crack that begins at the foot. Neither example have been examined under UV light.
