Description
A Federal Parcel Gilt, Eglomise and Mahogany Banjo Clock, Samuel Abbot (American, 1791-1861), Boston, Massachusetts. The white-painted circular dial having Roman numerals, inscribed 'Samuel Abbot / BOSTON'.
Samuel Abbott is listed in the Boston directories as a clockmaker in 1827 through 1830 before moving north to work in Montpelier, Vermont.
Dimensions: Height 39 1/2in; width 10 1/4in; depth 3 3/4in.
Condition
The numerals to the dial appear to be refreshed. The top final and fluted bracket and drop final have been re-gilt/painted. Rubbing and wear to the gilding overall. The reverse painted glass tablets with areas of loss and flaking. The pierced brass metalwork to either side of the clock's throat with minor bending and repairs. With winding key, weight and pendulum. We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of the clock's movement.
