Rollin Karg, 1994 untitled abstract sculpture, handblown glass, signed at base, good condition with minor chips at base. size: 21.5 x 7.25 x 7.25 inches. Rollin Karg was born in Columbus, Ohio, but raised in Miami, Florida. He originally came to Wichita, KS to attend Wichita University on a football scholarship but soon found his interest not in traditional schooling and left to pursue his glass blowing. Rollin studied hot glass at Emporia State University, Emporia, KS, commuting from Wichita while building his first furnace. Rollin Karg is an acclaimed glass artist who is renowned for his singularly unique art glass creations. He is especially well known for his creative use of dichroic colors Ă¢â‚¬â€œ colors which convey one color while reflecting another Ă¢â‚¬â€œ in his glass art. Rollin began his career in the working world as an engineer but it was not long before his interests gravitated toward more artistic pursuits. After exploring woodworking, pottery and photography he began to focus his artistic efforts on what he had decided to be his true artistic purpose Ă¢â‚¬â€œ glassblowing.By 1983 he had devoted his full attention and talents to glassblowing and in that same year he opened his studio and gallery, Karg Art Glass, in Kechi, Kansas. Over the years he honed his skills and he soon became well known within the art glass world for deftly mixing traditional glass making techniques with his own, more modern touches. His works have included paperweights, sculptures, bowls and perfume bottles. Rollin KargĂ¢â‚¬â„¢s art glass creations have won numerous awards and have been displayed in a multitude of esteemed galleries and glass exhibitions worldwide.Rollin no longer blows glass but has kept himself active in the art world with his metal sculptures he designs.
