Eight autograph letters from seven American author/journalists. 1) Theodore Dreiser (1871-1945) Autograph letter with a fine full signature, and on his letterhead. August 23, 1928. To "Blodgett". H 7-1/4 W 11". Condition: Fine condition (folds and one small edge tear at bottom. 2) Thomas Wolfe (1900-1938). Typed letter signed in pencil, dated June 2, 1933. To Mrs. Alice L. Steinlein, Greenwood Book Shop. With envelope. H 11" W 8-1/2". Condition: Fine condition. 3) Edmund Wilson (1895-1972). Top literary critic. Typed letter signed. May 15, 1962. To Mr. Leslie Marchand, Rutgers, concerning a ms copy of Swinburne's novel "Love's Cross Currents". H 10" W 7". Condition: Excellent condition. 4) Paul Bowles (1910-1999) Author and Composer. Typed letter signed. May 26, 1980. On the letterhead of Hotel de la Paix, Lausanne. To Mr. Daniel M.J. Stokes, East River Review, New York, asking for a copy of the review before he decides to send something to it! Full signature. Envelope included. H 8-1/4" W 5-3/4". Condition: Excellent condition. 5) Edwin Seaver (1900-1987) Publisher/Writer/Editor. Small 1pp autograph letter with full signature. Feb. 11, 1959. An I.O.U. to Peter Sheldon for $400.00. H 8-1/2" W 5-1/2". Condition: Excellent condition (light folds). 6) H.L. Mencken (1880-1956). Journalist/Critic. Small typed letter signed with initials (a circled M). November 22,1932. To Mr. Naegel. Two paragraphs and the last one reads, "My great fear is that the American brewers, when the time comes, will brew bad beer. If they do so in Maryland, I shall propose a law providing capital punishment for the offense." H 5-1/2" W 8-1/2". Condition: Fine condition, with two splits along one fold, and age darkening. 7) Edgar Lee Masters (1868-1950) Attorney/Poet. Two autograph letters signed. The first, on his own letterhead from October 14, 1938 to a Mr. Curry. The second, undated, is on the letterhead of Darrow, Masters, & Wilson. Chicago, to (we think) Irving Moore(?). Masters is allowing him to select a poem as he wishes, but suggests several poems as "most representative". Both H 11" W 8-1/2"". Condition: Both are in excellent condition (folds).
