Provenance: Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Kline; by descent in family
Note: Lawrence C. Kline was the president of Kline's Coat, Apron, and Towel Service of Philadelphia. He started a collection of art as a result of his dual interest in the linen supply business and fine art that depicted laundering. The collection was formed then exhibited to the public in cities where the firm operated. His collection contained works by Picasso, Degas, Gauguin, Renoir, and others including this drawing by Ben Shahn. It appears in a photograph on the brochure for his collection, "The Kline Collection of The Fine Art in Laundering".
