Description:

Roman Marble Male Head, c. Late 2nd - Early 3rd C. A.D., depicted beardless, turned slightly to his right, his deeply-drilled hair upswept with prominent anastole (cowlick), likely from a relief, perhaps a sarcophagus, mounted on a metal stand.

Provenance: The Estate of Neil F. Phillips, Esq., Q.C., Christie's, New York, 18 December 1997, lot 290. Christie's, New York, Dec. 6, 2007, lot 182, $5,250.

Measurements: Height: of head 7 in. x Width: 5 1/2 in. x Depth: 5 in.

Weathered and worn, surface dirt.
