Peter Hurd (NM/PA, 1904-1984), Heavy Weather, Watercolor on Paper, 1966, signed lower left, depicting storm clouds with a rainbow over fields, with label on the back from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Parkway at 26th St., Philadelphia, lent by the Baker Collector Gallery of Lubbock, Texas for the exhibition Henriette Wyeth-Peter Hurd Exhibition. Linen matted and framed. Frame size: 29 1/4 in. x 39 1/4 in.Peter Hurd was an American painter known for his Western landscapes. He studied in Pennsylvania with the illustrator N.C. Wyeth alongside Wyeth's own children. Hurd later married Wyeth's oldest daughter Henriette. During WWII, Hurd worked as a war correspondent for Life Magazine. In this time, he created hundreds of his ÒWar Sketches.Ó He went on to complete commissions for murals and portraits, including the official state portrait of Lyndon B. Johnson. His work can be found in the Roswell Museum and Art Center, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Whitney Museum, as well as in galleries and private collections.
