Description:

William Lumpkins (NM, 1909-2000), Village on the Ridge, Watercolor, 1971, signed and dated June 71 lower right, depicting a village with treeline in the foreground and mountains in the background, matted and framed. Frame size: 29 in. x 35 in.

William Lumpkins was an American artist and architect best known for his abstract watercolors and pioneering solar adobe architecture. He studied art at the University of New Mexico and architecture at University of Southern California. Lumpkins was a founding member of the Transcendental Painting Group and cofounder of the Santa Fe Art Institute with Pony Ault. Today his work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, New Mexico Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Roswell Museum and Art Center, and The Albuquerque Museum.
