Item Details
Description

Jackie Robinson Becomes the First African-American Executive of a Major Radio/Television Station Furthering Racial Progress in America. Twice Signed NBC Contract with PSA Authentication

An 18p signed contract, 8.5" x 11", dated October 27, 1952, New York, NY, boldly signed twice by Jackie Robinson as "Jackie Robinson" and his official signature "Jack R. Robinson" at the bottom of the last page of the contract. The contract is signed twice because Jackie's name is listed incorrectly as John Robinson. The contract is also signed in blue ink by a representative of NBC. Each page of the contract displays a staple hole in the upper left corner, as well as a few light creases. Together with a one-page NBC "Interdepartment Correspondence" sheet, dated January 5, 1953, that accompanied the contract when it was filed with NBC's legal department. Accompanied by a Full LOA from PSA.

In 1952 Jackie Robinson broke another important color barrier when he accepted the post of "Director of Community Affairs" for the National Broadcasting Company, Inc., in New York, thereby becoming the first African-American executive for a major television or radio station. Offered here is the signed contract, dated "October 27, 1952 as of March 1, 1952," between Jackie Robinson and the National Broadcasting Company, Inc. (NBC) that gave Robinson another opportunity to further racial progress in America.

According to the terms of the two-year agreement, which runs from March 1, 1952 to February 28, 1954, Robinson is to receive a yearly salary of $12,500. It also stipulates that Robinson's contractual obligations to the Brooklyn Dodgers Baseball Club shall take precedence over his contractual obligations to NBC.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
