Giacomo Puccini Signed Postcard with a Musical Quote from "La Tosca"
Postcard, measuring 3.5" x 5.5", Torre del Lago, Tuscany, Italy, dated July 1903. A small postcard with a vignette portrait of Puccini. Below his photograph, Puccini has added a three-bar musical quotation from his opera "La Tosca", specifically from "ma falle gli occhi neri" in Act One, translating to "but make her eyes black." The postcard is blank on verso. Accompanied by a Letter of Authentication from PSA/DNA. The card has faint foxing but is boldly signed. Very fine overall.
"La Tosca" was one of Puccini's most famous and creative works. The opera premiered at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome on January 14, 1900 and still continues to captivate audiences to this day. Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) was an Italian composer known for his operas and regarded as one of the most successful Italian opera composers after Verdi. Some of his best-known and best-loved works include "La bohème", "La Tosca", and "Madama Butterfly".
