Other Notes: Raul Coronel was a Mexican sculptor and stoneware designer. Influenced by Mexican, Mesoamerican, African, and Greek Art, Coronel was a diverse potter and known for his abstract approach. His wide array of work varied from functional wheel-thrown pots and bottles, to tableware and hand-built planters, lamps, and wall screens, as well as stoneware clay wall murals for both domestic and business settings. Coronel attended the University of Hawaii in 1951 where he studied art and then studied at the College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, CA, where he worked alongside Peter Voulkos and studied under Marguerite Wildenhain. He completed his B.A. at the California State University, Los Angeles, and would later continue his studies, receiving his M.F.A. at the University of Southern California. Coronel opened up a ceramic studio and store in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue called iRaul Angulo Coronel, Stoneware Designs,i later becoming iStoneware Designs Incorporated.i In the early 1980s, Coronelis company reformed as iRaul Coronel Incorporatedi in Venice, California. He retired approximately 1994.

Condition
Overall good condition with dust accumulation, scattered minor scuffs, scratches, and inherent firing flaws commensurate with age. Scattered ceramic segments with minor chips to corners.
