His real name was Manuel Garcia Valdes and with it began what many have come to qualify as the golden age of Cuban painting. Since I was a child, only six years old, he began to demonstrate his abilities as a painter. He joined the Academia de San Alejandro in 1909, where he was a pupil of Leopoldo Romanach. In 1911 he was appointed Professor of basic drawing, and when it began to become evident his genius for painting.In 1924 he made his first exhibition in Havana in "The Gallery". The following year he made his first trip to Europe, to Paris, met and studied classical painting and above all the primitive Italians. It was at the time when he began to sign his works under the name of Victor Manuel, once they baptize him thus a series of postimpresionistas artists of Montparnasse. His style of painting began to suffer a more personal transformation, RIP which denied the academic learned during all their years of study.After two years in Paris he returned to Cuba in 1927, and there two exhibitions of his work took place. The first one was held in February; it performed a personal art exhibition in the halls of the painters and sculptors Association. In may, he participated in the exhibition of new art, considered by many as the beginning of the era of the "Cuban modern painting". He was one of the renovators of Cuban art by his painting and the teachings bequeathed to young Cuban Painters alike.In 1929, he made his second trip to Europe; This time, in addition to their stay in Paris, he remained in Spain and Belgium. Upon returning to Cuba already had developed a style defined through a theme that never abandoned later: Cuban landscapes and female busts.In 1935, Victor Manuel began to reap awards for his work. It won two awards in the first two exhibitions of painting and sculpture, held in 1935 and 1938 respectively. In 1945, he made his own exhibit at the University of Havana; the Association of reporters (1951); in the Lex Gallery (1959) and the national galleries in 1959. That year was included as a tribute exhibition retrospective of his work. In 1964, he began a new stage where he began to express themselves through lithography that held in the Experimental workshop graphic of the Cathedral square of the Cuban capital.Good7500250001500
