His real name was Manuel Garcia Valdes and with it began what many have come to qualify as the golden age of Cuban painting. Since I was a child, only six years old, he began to demonstrate his abilities as a painter. He joined the Academia de San Alejandro in 1909, where he was a pupil of Leopoldo Romanach. In 1911 he was appointed Professor of basic drawing, and when it began to become evident his genius for painting.In 1924 he made his first exhibition in Havana in "The Gallery". The following year he made his first trip to Europe, to Paris, met and studied classical painting and above all the primitive Italians. It was at the time when he began to sign his works under the name of Victor Manuel, once they baptize him thus a series of postimpresionistas artists of Montparnasse. His style of painting began to suffer a more personal transformation, RIP which denied the academic learned during all their years of study.After two years in Paris he returned to Cuba in 1927, and there two exhibitions of his work took place.
