Greek or Western Greek 2nd half 5th cent. B.C. Clay.
a) H. 2 51/64 in; 7.1 cm. Dm. (without handles): 7 3/4 in; 19.7 cm.
b) H. 3 11/32 in; 8.5 cm. Dm. (without handles): 8 5/32 in; 20.7 cm
A pair of elegant, black-glazed, footed cups. The inside of the handles and a part of the foot with red coating in reserve. Both cups partially misfired to a reddish hue. Glaze abraded in several places.
a) Interior with imprint from stacking during firing. Handle with lip fragments reattached; one fragment restored; foot with ancient repair.
b) Reassembled from large fragments; minor infills retouched.
Formerly priv. coll. Prof. Adler Kurt, Basel, acquired in September 1977. Thence by descent in the family.
