(ABRAHAM LINCOLN.) Telegram announcing the Lincoln assassination on the remote northern coast of Nova Scotia. Manuscript message on printed American Telegraph Company form, 7¼ x 5 inches, from J.W. McPhie of Pictou, Nova Scotia to Mrs. Cogswell of Antigonish, Nova Scotia; moderate wear, laid down on the detached inside front cover of an unknown book. Pictou, NS, 15 April 1865 An artifact showing how the news of the Lincoln assassination traveled across the world. This message was sent from a small town on Nova Scotia's northern coast to a smaller town yet further east along the coast. "President Lincoln was shot last night at Washington Theatre. Sc'y Seward & son stabbed, latter mortally. Lincoln died at 7 this morning."
