Oil on canvas, signed lower left "Leo. Hermann" A noted figure painter Hermann, who was educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under the tutelage of Ernest Meissonier, entered the Parisien art scene in 1875 at the Paris Salon. The painting depicts English dandy Beau Brummel in a fine red jacket turned to engage the viewer against a wooded background with red flowers. Exceptional period gilt carved frame. The reverse with J. J. Gillespie Company Fine Art Label, Pittsburgh. 10" x 7" Frame (slight losses) 17 3/4" x 14" Provenance: Mr. William C. Robinson Jr was master of foxhounds at the Sewickley Hunt Club and also was owner of the horse farms: "Far Away Farm" Sewickley PA and "Lanes End" in Versailles Kentucky. His wife Mary Laughlin Robinson was also an accomplished equestrian.
