Seven Staffordshire Pink Lustre Frog Mugs England, 19th century, all transfer-printed and enameled painted, three commemorative Crimean War mug with the inscription 'May They Ever Be United', black frog to interior wall, lg. 5; two with nautical verse to one side and depiction of ship on the other, black frog to interior wall, lg. 5 1/4; one with a depiction of a family under 'Sailors Farewell', lg 5; and one depicting 'Tynemouth Haven' on one side, verse to other side, black frog to interior wall, lg. 5 in. Footnotes: From The Estate of William 'Bill' Hicks Bill Hicks was a prominent figure in the New York City theater scene in the 1960s and 1970s. Bill was the first Development Director of Joseph Papp's The Public Theater, and his fundraising efforts were instrumental in underwriting hits including 'Hair', 'A Chorus Line', and 'That Championship Season'. Bill was also an avid collector of British ceramics, and his frog mug collection spans the late 18th to late 19th centuries and features historical and whimsical scenes, often with witty and clever rhymes.
