African Chokwe Carved Wood Throne Chair Litter. Chokwe chiefs adopted the chair as a symbol of their authority because the form was associated with powerful foreigners. The legs of teh throne and the studs on the wings were modelled on a type of European chair that was imported into the area by Portuguese officials beginning in the 17th C. 95 inches L x 28 W x 51 inches H.
