Description
A superb American Regionalist painting titled 'Puppies for Sale'. The painting depicts a young boy (likely boy scout) selling Poppies in Waukegan, Illinois near the Karcher Hotel. The lower bottom corner is signed Freylon E Clark and dated '54. The back of the oil on board features a tag titled FREYLON E CLARK/V.A. HOSPITAL - BLDG 1-5/DOWNEY ILLINOIS/ANNUAL COMPETITION 1954. Freylon Clark was a WWII veteran, and likely a resident at the VA Downey Hospital, the largest Neuropsychiatric Hospital in the country at the time. The oil on board measures 18 x 24 inches, unframed, with some edge wear and scratches to the field.
