Gerda Wegener, registered at birth as Gerda Marie Fredrikke Gottlieb (Hammelev, March 15, 1885 (perhaps 1889) - Frederiksberg, July 28, 1940), was a Danish erotic painter, illustrator and illustrator.In 1902 she went to Copenhagen to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Women's School, where she remained until 1905. She met artist Lili Elbe, at that time Einar Wegener, whom she married in 1904.
She gerda participated in several of her exhibitions in her country, from 1904 to 1909, (Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition, Autumn Art Exhibition, and The Union of Journalists). In 1908 and 1909 she won two awards in contests promoted by the newspaper Politiken with her works De ella Conpenhagen Woman and Figures of the Street. She became a regular contributor to the newspaper and other magazines.In 1912 Gerda achieved great success as a graphic artist in fashion and satirical magazines such as Journal des Dames, Fantasio, La Baïonette, Le Sourire de France, La Vie Parisienne, Vogue and Femina. Hers hers combined this activity with hers, her work as a portraitist of members of high society -especially women- and representatives of the art world. She repeatedly played Lili Elbe, with a wide variety of clothes, accessories, and various hairstyles. She also portrayed herself in several of her works.
