Description
Central Asia, Uzbekistan, Tashkent, ca. mid-19th to early 20th century. A fine wheel thrown ceramic bowl decorated with folk patterns of scrolling floral motifs and rosette in black and highlighted with a teal blue and dark plum hues under a clear glaze. Pretty bowls such as this were used for serving refreshments to visiting guests and as water ewers for washing hands. The blue-green hue is very popular in Uzbekistani ceramics due to the mineral / clay deposits in the region. Size: 8.6" Diameter x 2.75" H (21.8 cm x 7 cm)

Mineral and earthen encrustations on sides. Surface pitting and chips to glaze, otherwise intact without repairs. Nice craquelure.
