Description
Caucasian (probably Dagestan or Persia), a rare antique sterling silver ornamental round bowl with lid stamped 916 silver and MO5-A (Moscow Silver Works), old niello work, with black and deep blue enamel. Re-hallmarked in the USSR in 1955 with assay mark 916 (1927 - 1958) and the repair mark of a Moscow Jewelry Factory (most likely the handle replacement). In good overall condition, minor enamel loss. Total weight 2.51 kg. Provenance: John Watkins Canadian Ambassador to Russia, to Canadian Diplomat H. Basil Robinson Family, Ottawa.
