Description
NORTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND GAINES-SCHOOL BAROQUE MAPLE SIDE CHAIR, the back with carved crest above a woven-cane support, above a trapezoidal-frame woven-cane seat, raised on baluster-and-block front legs joined by a turned front stretcher and terminating in Spanish front feet, the four legs joined by an H-form stretcher. Retains an old refinished surface. Fitted with a contemporary squab. Possibly Portsmouth, NH, or Boston, MA. Mid 18th century. 46" HOA, 18 1/2" H seat.

Very good condition, proper left foot with patch to side, other foot with small loss, back and seat show holes from previous upholstery, short crack to one rear leg.Â
