Description
CHINESE EXPORT ATTRIBUTED HUNTING-THEMED SILVER SAUCE BOAT, ovoid-form well with curved spout having scalloped rim and caryatid handle, sides with hunting-themed relief decoration featuring horns and animals including a stag and a duck, raised on three scrolled legs with knees depicting a bust of probably Artemis or Diana in front of a crossed arrow and bow with a crescent moon above her. Impressed to base with a partial "W" mark probably for the maker and two poorly-executed English-style pseudo hallmarks of a lion passant and a crowned leopard's head, unknown silver fineness. Total weight: 5.065 ozt. 19th century, or possibly earlier. 5 1/2" x 3" OA, 3" HOA.

Good to very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, and nicks, a few dents, spout with repair, handle with repairs at terminals, one foot with a repair.
