Description
The lot features a set of Indian hide men's gauntlet gloves with whimsical beadwork from the Ute Indians dating to circa 1900-1930's. The set shows a classic gauntlet glove pattern with wide flaring integral cuffs all made from Indian tanned hide with thin fringes on one outside edge and lined on the inside with old calico trade clothe. The beadwork shows a whimsical geometric designs being trade thread sewn showing early glass trade seed and petit beads as well as some Czechoslovakian beads. The beads show colors of greasy yellow, Cheyenne pink, chalk white, red, cobalt, medium greasy green, semi-transparent blue, semi-transparent, semi-transparent pink heart, some Czech beads and some crazy pattern. The set shows considerable patina with some slight cracking, but still partial soft Indian tanned hides. Each glove measures 8.5"W with an additional 5.5" fringe by 15"L. Total weight of 10 oz.
