Native American, Plains Indians, ca. 1st half of the 20th century CE. A flat fan comprised of turkey feathers, a hand stitched animal hide (probably buffalo or deer) covered handle of light grey and brown hues adorned with two bands of red painted circular motifs, two bands featuring four rows of creamy white/beige seed beads, and a generous number of hide tassels with three copper bells and a tobacco pouch attached. Fans like this example have been used by both males and females in powwows, peyeote rituals and other ceremonies. Size: 30.5" L (77.5 cm)

Condition
Normal wear with areas of discoloration and fading to the leather hide commensurate to age and exposure. Copper bells show expected oxidation. Feathers are in good condition.
