Chinese Embroidered Silk Jacket, probably 19th-20th century in date, is fashioned with auspicious symbols on blue silk. The cloud collar pattern and serenity symbol--created with bands of brocade and embroidery--are the major motif in the decorative program. The sleeves are encircled with bands of white silk embroidered with playful Shi-shi lions and floral motifs created with the forbidden stich (needle-loop embroidery) The brass buttons are open-work design to resemble the brocade balls often shown with the lions.
