Japanese Porcelain Sweets Bowl, by Makuzu Kozan probably early 20th century in date, is shaped like a handscroll. The interior is decorated with a landscape brushed with iron brown glaze emulating monochromatic paintings. The base bearing the stamped seal of the artist. The subject of scholars in a pavilion and brushwork defining rocks known as the "axe cut stroke", suggest Sung Dynasty influences and the painter at the pottery studio was familiar with old models of Japanese and Chinese painting.
