Description
Five Japanese Chrysanthemum Dishes: Ninnami Dohachi (Japanese 1783-1855) are created from stoneware and decorated with chrysanthemum blossoms boldly outlined in iron brown glaze. Bold brushstrokes of the same glaze accent the bottom. Each dish is signed by Ninnami Dohachi. The artist established a kiln in the area of Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto where many kilns were located. The family had connections with Kyoto tea circles. The tomobako, customized in design to house the 5 dishes, is inscribed with "Son-Kenzan Mukozuke-zara, go-kyaku" (5 Mukozuke Dishes following the style of Kenzan).Mukozuke dishes were essential to the kaiseki tea ceremony meal. Dohachi has ceramics in many museums including the Kyoto National Museum.

Condition
One dish with hairline firing crack to footring. One dish with two kintsugi repairs, one to to exterior rim and one to interior under rim edge. Another dish with kintsugi repair to rim.
