Artist: Rutherford Boyd (American, 1882-1951) Medium: Oil on cement board Title: Back of House, With Pine and Magnolia Subject: House with yard Image Size: 16H x 17W Date: 1920 Edition Size: N/A Signature: Unsigned Frame: Molded painted wood frame, 18H x 18.75W Provenance: Signed letter from son David Boyd John Rutherford Boyd, known as Rutherford Boyd, was born in Philadelphia and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He moved to New York City and attended the Art Students League. Boyd worked as an illustrator before turning to the fine arts and becoming a painter, sculptor, and art teacher. Boyd exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1926 to 1929, and 1931 to 1932. He won prizes at the Dallas Art Association in 1940 and the Southern States Art League in 1941. Boyd was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club, and the Architectural League of New York. Hw would later settled in Leonia, New Jersey.
