Description
This is an Adams and Westlake brass firemans lantern, with a hallmark and patent date on the bottom of April 26, 1864. The tag on it, as received from the consignor, states it belonged to the fire chief from the Montgomery, NY fire hall. What is confusing is that the lantern has one of the well-known, reproduction cast green globes showing WABASH in a trapezoid. Perhaps the fireman or consignor thought it was original or just liked the look of it, but it does not belong with this lantern. Nevertheless, it is an excellent example of a rare brass lantern over 150 years old. A good polishing would make this a stunning example!
