Description
This is the earliest and oldest railroad marked milk can that we have ever seen! It is from the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne, and Chicago Railroad. Brass tag reads J.K. MCCLURE, ENON, PA. P.F.W.& C.R.R. We know the can dates 1856 to 1861, as the railroad was reorganized as a railway in February 1862. The size and style of the can also offer us a clue as to age. The can has dents, and has been painted at some point, with the remnants of an eagle on the front of the can. Comes complete with lid and chain. Uber-rare piece to add to any Eastern of Midwestern railroad collection!
