Benjamin Jorj Harris (1904-1957 - African American Artist). Harris was one of the pioneer's of airbrush painting. FIGURES IN A CITY CORRIDOR, 28" x 24" acrylic airbrush painting on paper (framed size: 34" x 30") signed lower right: Harris.
Biography from Askart: Benjamin Jorj Harris was a noted African American artist who lived from 1904 to 1957. He was related to Joel Harris, author the 'Uncle Remus stories." Benjamin specialized in airbrushed watercolors and along with his wife Georgette, are said to have perfected the technique.
Harris was one of many artists who supplied original watercolors to Newman Decor, a high-end interior design firm that decorated apartments during the late 1940s housing boom. His original art work would complement the fabric selected as coverings or, as in this case, the overall mood of the decorations.
Over the years, Harris' work has become highly sought-after and collectable as he and his wife, Georgette were thought to have "perfected the art of airbrushing."
