Star Wallowing Bull (Ojibwe (White Earth Nation) & Arapahoe, b. 1973). Lithograph on paper titled "Clown Face" depicting an abstract figure against a yellow background, 2010. Pencil signed and dated along the lower right; numbered 3/28 along the lower center; titled along the lower left.
Star Wallowing Bull is the son of artist Frank Big Bear and grew up surrounded by art. While Wallowing Bull initially used primarily colored pencils, he eventually transitioned to painting after injuring his hand. James Rosenquist, his mentor, gave him a full set of tools to use to begin painting.
