Signature, date, and title handwritten on verso. A sophisticated painting by Bonnie Halsey-Dutton that speaks to the rich creative history of the indigenous peoples of the Great Plains. The composition features a single moccasin spotlit in the foreground against a background embellished by pictographs of animals and textural patterns that suggest shoe prints implying those "leaving one's mark". All is delineated in rich earth tones with a few contrasting blue and red highlights on the vamp of the moccasin. Halsey-Dutton's manner of paint application suggests age and weathering that has accrued over the course of history. Dr. Halsey-Dutton is both a professional visual artist and a fine arts educator, holding a PhD in Art History and Education from the University of Arizona. She exhibits her artwork both nationally and internationally, and also teaches art education workshops at home and abroad.
