A Volkswagen presentation box presented to Captain R W C Common
wooden construction applied with presentation plaque, engraved with details and dated Mars 1949, mounted with a miniature carved wooden 'Beetle' painted gold with black lettering and details, the box 36cm wide overall.
Footnotes:
Captain R.W.C Common was a 2nd lieutenant of the Royal Army Service Corps in 1944 and by 1948 was made a senior lieutenant. In 1949 Common was then made the Honorary rank of Captain for his completion of service.

Common was known as part of the team that worked with the GCLO (German Civil Labour Organisation) in Bad Oeynhausen (where the Volkswagen factory was based at that time), in his position similar to that of a senior foreman. This box was given to him as a leaving gift for his work and services by the Volkswagen workers.
