Description
An antique Russian Orthodox Imperial silver triptych travel folding icon, skladen, Deesis. Deesis is an icon or a group of icons with an image of Christ in the center, in this case, the iconography of the Lord Almighty, and to the right and left of it, respectively, the Mother of God and John the Baptist, represented in the traditional gesture of prayerful intercession. A mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wooden board. The icon is overlaid with a silver oklad, adorned with repousse scrollwork decor patterns. Bears Russian Imperial silver hallmarks under the frame. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. Presented in a folding pink velvet kiot with a clasp and a cross on top.
