Description
Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Yup'ik culture, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A rare example of a hand-carved wooden finger mask adorned with feathers, perhaps snow owl and duck. The grinning face exhibits teardrop eyes, 3 white feathers with curved wooden fittings, and 4 brown feathers, all above a pair of slender finger holes for use. Size (mask): 11" W x 8" H (27.9 cm x 20.3 cm); (display case): 2.5" L x 12.875" W x 12.875" H (6.4 cm x 32.7 cm x 32.7 cm)
